Van Le - Designer, Startled Monocle

Van Le is the game designer for Startled Monocle.

While code is his primary contribution to game development at Startled Monocle, his knowledge in game design theory allows him to rapidly prototype and iterate general game ideas into fun and playable mechanics with minimal turn-around time.  In his free time he can usually be found ‘relaxing’ with his iPad scanning Cracked.com and iFunny, or writing code on his Macbook Air.

*Fake tan added for increased humanness.
Van has been a gamer ever since growing up in the 8-bit era of the Nintendo Entertainment System. His design philosophy is heavily influenced by the era in which he grew up. The “retro” designs are meant to evoke a nostalgic feel among older gamers, while introducing a whole new generation of young gamers to the simple, but fun games from the 80s and early 90s. Van still has a passion for easy-to-pickup gameplay mechanics and mostly enjoys playing games on his iPhone, with the exception of Sid Meier’s Civilization, which he plays on his PC.
